Most diets are a combination of smart eating and everything in moderation. The Holman's recommend eating six meals a day to keep body glucose in check. Each meal should be a combination of protein, healthy carbohydrates, and drinking plenty of water. Eat Lots of Protein The thing I like best about The Old School nutritional plan is that it emphasizes eating a lot of protein. For a man in his thirties, this is a good thing. I do like my steak. The authors recommend eating protein with every meal. Protein consumption does help with building body mass. Healthy Carbs are Essential You can eat a lot of healthy carbohydrates on this diet. Healthy carbs are foods like vegetables, avocados, and tomatoes. The authors recommend not eating a diet solely made up of protein because the protein can tax the kidneys. The Holman's recommend eating between 100 and 250 grams of carbs. That is a lot of carbs! Drink Lots of Water How many times have we heard our mom's say drink eight glasses of water a day? There is nothing new about this. The truth is, water is good for your digestion, skin, and helps give a youthful appearance. Having a glass of water after a workout is essential. It is very hard to drink that much water but very important. So drink up boys! Take a Day off This plan says it is perfectly acceptable to take a day off and celebrate a little. I am sure the authors don't want you to splurge every day, but once in a while is a nice reward. What guy doesn't want chicken wings and beer on football day? I think this plan will work for me. Ready, Set, GoNow that I know the rules, I am ready to get started. But it is the middle of December with the holidays approaching. I think I will just do the best that I can to eat good food and less of it.
