Motivation to Succeed
Hi Guys,
It has been a while. Life has a way of getting in the way. My home life has been really busy as I cart kids around and my job is taking more of my time. Time has a way of rushing by. I can tell you that given my lack of time, I am pleased with my success. I have been able to workout 3 times a week and really enjoy spending fewer hours on weight training. I have lost 12 pounds to date. As you remember, my goal is to lose 20 pounds. I am a big fan of motivational speakers and books. Over one million six hundred viewers have watched this motivational video. I guess I am not the only one looking for a little inspiration.
This video lasts a little over half an hour. That seems like a long time, but I have been playing it while I workout. It gives me a little extra push.
I hope you enjoy the video as much as I do. Keep working out!

Building A Better Body It has been six months, and I have met my goal of losing 20 pounds. My body is coming into shape, and I am feeling so much better. I have more energy to chase my two young sons around. This Old School New Body system has worked. As a manly man, I want those sculptured muscles that define weight lifters. Maybe not the Arnold Schwarzenegger body builder hunky muscles, but I want it to look like I have been working out. I have decided to skip Phase 2, of the F4X plan. Phase 2 is tailored more for the ladies on a diet. Of course, Shape will work for guys; I just want to jump start my exercise routine and go directly to Build. Nutrition for Healthy Living It has been relatively easy to stay on the diet plan of the Old School New Body Plan. I have eggs for breakfast, meat for lunch and either chicken or steak for dinner. Throw in a few veggies and I haven't been in the least bit hungry. On the build phase, I can eat even more protein. I plan to increase my portion size and add a protein shake in between meals. More protein is needed to build more body muscle. Body BuildingI must say that I have enjoyed my 30-minute workouts. The exercises have targeted the right muscles, and I have seen incredible results. But I am ready to take it to another level.
The Build Phase is just what it implies. I will be increasing the weight of the barbells and doing more repetitions and adding set 4. Instead of 30 minutes, the workouts will now take 45 minutes. I do think I can find 45 minutes in my busy schedule. Let me leave you with an inspirational quote: The Lean Phase targets the person who hasn't worked out in a while. Getting back to the gym can be very intimidating, especially if you aren't in the best shape. Pay Attention to DietPhase 1 concentrates on losing those unwanted pounds. I am paying close attention to the meal plan. For breakfast, I have eggs and bacon. Lunch and dinner include at least two helpings of protein and lots of healthy carbs. And yes, I am drinking at least eight glasses of water. Limit Exercise timeI find it hard to believe that I am only supposed to workout for 30 minutes. In the old days, I found it nothing to spend at least 90 minutes for a full workout. The goal of the old school training is to identify the weight that you can easily lift for 15 repetitions. Then pick up a weight that is lighter and only complete ten repetitions. There are Only Four Exercises Don't exert yourself. Use only these four exercises in Phase One, Lean Phase.
Measuring SuccessRemember that we are building muscle mass with the Old School New Body System. Results don't always show on the scale. The primary purpose of the Lean Phase is to lose weight, but results can show in your clothes fitting better and inches lost.
Keep track of your measurements and log how you are feeling. I am looking forward to having more energy and stamina. You may have heard of the Old School New Body Plan but may be wondering what exactly it can do for you? It is a new approach to an age-old problem. As we age, staying in shape becomes more challenging because our bodies change so drastically. Techniques that might have worked in your twenties and thirties have little to no effect as the body matures. Old School New Body is a complete lifestyle change that incorporates exercise, nutrition, and diet. Exercise The workout portion of this program uses a protocol called Focus-4-Exercise, F4X for short. It is specifically designed to boost muscle mass and encourages weight loss. There are 3 phases, Lean, Fit, and Build. Each phase increases difficulty as the body loses weight. Workouts consist of doing four core exercises: barbells lifts, side pulls, stretches, and inversions. Each routine will be repeated four times in sets of three. The secret to success is not to use heavy barbells. The thinking is that you will be able to warm up gradually while giving muscles a complete workout. Probably the best aspect of the old school exercise is that you don't have to spend hours and hours at the gym. The program is designed to be completed in thirty minutes or less. In fact, long workouts are discouraged. Diet The dietary requirements do not feature restrictions. Rather the creators of the program, Steve and Becky Holman, encourage healthy eating habits. Recommendations include eating protein with every meal, 100 to 250 grams of carbohydrates, and drinking eight glasses of water. The program also arms you with information regarding the foods you eat to help you understand what foods will be most helpful to your goals. The diet portion of the program gives you valuable information about the content of the food you eat so that you can make more informed decisions about your nutrition. The dietary guide is a must have to eat right so that you get the best results from the Old School New Body program. When you implement the effective workout with a sensible diet, a new body is sure to happen. This program is designed for older people, but I, a man of 35, have used it with amazing results. It worked for my father and it has worked for me. I highly recommend it to everyone looking for an approach that values time, healthy eating habits, and a younger appearance. For more information, please click http://www.healthvi.org/exercise-program-reviews/steve-holmans-old-school-new-body-review/. The program is great for those older individuals that have not been able to achieve a noticeable result from other methods. The creators of the program have combined their vast knowledge of fitness training to give you the information and guidelines to set you up for success. This program is also much less expensive than some of the others on the market today. If you are looking for an exercise program that can give you better results then this one is worth a try.
The F4X Exercise Program stands for Focus-4-Exercise. The workout uses four primary routines using squats, bent over stretches, incline presses, and dumbbells lifts.
A total workout should take less than 30 minutes. Fewer Repetitions with Lighter weights
In the past when I was in the gym, my goal was to lift as much weight as possible and do as many repetitions as possible with the heavier weight. The Old School program recommends that you find a weight that is easy to lift and only do minimal repetitions. The ideal workout will have ten sets of repetition, waiting 30 seconds between sets. Raise the dumbbell in one second and lower in 3 seconds. Only work out three times a week.

There is a lot more information in the book about the F4X old school program. The bottom line is to limit the routines you use and get finished quickly.
This is the program for me.
I have always loved working out with weights. I found the gym the ultimate good old boys club. I would go to exercise, but I got just as much from hanging out with my buddies. It was certainly cheaper and safer than hanging out in the bars.
After my first son was born, it became impossible to make it to the gym on a regular basis let alone spend 90 minutes at a time for a workout. I found myself sleep deprived and eating fast food in place of home cooked meals. My muscle mass began to decline, while my weight jumped at an alarming rate. But the worst part was that I felt like I was 60 years old. Then a funny thing happened. My parents live in a different state, and I hadn't seen them in a few months. When our families got together for a wedding, I hardly recognized my dad. This person who called himself my father had lost 25 pounds and seemed to roll back the hands of time. He looked fabulous. What happened? My Dad told me about the Old School New Body Plan and how it had made him feel 20 years younger. My first reaction was that I didn't have time to spend on an old school plan that is designed for older guys. Here is a before and after picture of my dad, John. As you can see he looks pretty amazing!
If this old school program can work for my Dad who hadn't done a bit of exercising in years, it certainly should work for me. Drinking lots of water, eating healthy, and working out with a system coined The Focus4 Exercise Protocol, or F4X for short, are the key elements of the Old School New Body Plan. How hard could this be?
I am not a person who responds well to structured, rigorous plans, so I decided to develop my modified program. I found this video on YouTube and will start with it:
That is where I am today. I am going to start my plan. Check back with me in a couple of weeks to review my progress.
Hi Guys, It has now been two weeks since I started my home grown new body program. I can't say that I am thrilled with the results. In the past, my workouts have been based solely on weight training. As I have mentioned before, I love going to the gym. I am noticing my body mass increasing, but I am not losing much weight. And I certainly don't have a new body or renewed energy. I just talked with my dad, and he feels it is important to vary the types of exercises I am doing. By doing different exercises and repetitions, he believes I can spend less time working out and get better results. John Rowley has always been a hero of mine. John combines exercise with motivation to get great workout results. A co-worker told me John has united with Steve Holman, the author of the Old School New Body program. I have always trusted John to be honest. I am now convinced that purchasing the Old School New Body program is the best course of action for me. John Rowley is very respected in the corporate world. Companies like IBM hire him to be a keynote speaker at their conferences. It is rare to find a fitness guru who is as comfortable in the gym as he is in the boardroom. I didn't know anything about Steve Holman, co-author of Old School New Body. I have never heard his name before. After research, I found Steve to have excellent credentials. I am most impressed that he has been editor-in-chief for "Iron Man Magazine" for 15 years. Here is an excerpt from Simply-shredded where Steve Holman is interviewed: Becky Holman is the nutritionist in the group. She is over 50 and has raised two daughters. Like most mothers with active children, there was little time for taking care of herself. When she was in her twenties, she enjoyed working out but gave it up for 15 years. She paired up with Steve, her husband, to develop The Old School New Body Plan. As you can see in the pictures below, the plan has worked well to give Becky a new body. I am very impressed with the authors of The Old School New Body Plan. Steve and Becky Holman are great examples of how the diet worked for people over fifty. I am even more impressed with the fact that John Rowley has joined forces with the Holman's. His endorsement is a great Old School New Body endorsement for me.
My challenge is to record how the old school plan works for me and other men in their 30's. I will leave you with an image that expresses my feelings right now. Excited to get started, but cautious on the details. Most diets are a combination of smart eating and everything in moderation. The Holman's recommend eating six meals a day to keep body glucose in check. Each meal should be a combination of protein, healthy carbohydrates, and drinking plenty of water. Eat Lots of Protein The thing I like best about The Old School nutritional plan is that it emphasizes eating a lot of protein. For a man in his thirties, this is a good thing. I do like my steak. The authors recommend eating protein with every meal. Protein consumption does help with building body mass. Healthy Carbs are Essential You can eat a lot of healthy carbohydrates on this diet. Healthy carbs are foods like vegetables, avocados, and tomatoes. The authors recommend not eating a diet solely made up of protein because the protein can tax the kidneys. The Holman's recommend eating between 100 and 250 grams of carbs. That is a lot of carbs! Drink Lots of Water How many times have we heard our mom's say drink eight glasses of water a day? There is nothing new about this. The truth is, water is good for your digestion, skin, and helps give a youthful appearance. Having a glass of water after a workout is essential. It is very hard to drink that much water but very important. So drink up boys! Take a Day off This plan says it is perfectly acceptable to take a day off and celebrate a little. I am sure the authors don't want you to splurge every day, but once in a while is a nice reward. What guy doesn't want chicken wings and beer on football day? I think this plan will work for me. Tips for a Successful Weight Loss Let's be reasonable. We are on a diet after all. Here are a few tips to help a 30 something guy be successful:
Ready, Set, GoNow that I know the rules, I am ready to get started. But it is the middle of December with the holidays approaching. I think I will just do the best that I can to eat good food and less of it.
See you in the next blog. If you are reading this blog, you must be interested in losing weight and gaining a new body. Aren't we all? You have come to the right place to learn all about the phenomenal Old School New Body System that Steve and Becky Holman created. In my blog, I will give you information to help you understand what this system is and how best to use it. I hope you find my review informative and inspirational.
Typically, this plan targets an older audience, but I am going to show how a guy with little extra time in his thirties can reap the benefits of starting a new weight loss plan. When I was in my twenties, I loved to work out with weights in the gym for hours on end. I had a lot more time back then. Now that I am a young dad with a more challenging career, I just don't have 90 minutes to spend at the gym. Hopefully, the old school approach will give me a whole new body while spending far less time exercising. You can find more information about me on my about Carl page. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. Welcome to my blog and let's get started! |
